One of the most common things I hear from women is that they would love to do a boudoir session, but they feel like they are too old. Maybe you have thought about doing one for years but kept putting it off, or maybe you feel like boudoir is something meant for women in their 20s and 30s. The truth is, there is no age limit when it comes to feeling beautiful, confident, and comfortable in your own skin. In fact, some of the women who get the most out of their boudoir experience are the ones who finally decide it is time to do something just for themselves.

Am I Too Old for a Boudoir Shoot?

Absolutely not. There is no age limit for a boudoir photo shoot. I photograph women at many different ages and stages of life, and one of the biggest misconceptions about boudoir photography is that you need to be young or have a certain type of body to do it. Boudoir is about celebrating the woman you are right now, whether you are in your 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, or beyond.

If you have been wondering whether you are too old for a boudoir session, here are a few things I want you to know:

  • You do not need to look like you did in your 20s. Our bodies change as we get older. We gain weight, lose weight, have babies, go through menopause, develop wrinkles, stretch marks, scars, and loose skin. None of those things mean you cannot have beautiful boudoir photos.

  • You do not have to wait until you feel confident. So many women tell me they want to book a boudoir shoot once they lose a little weight or feel better about themselves. You do not have to walk into my studio already feeling completely confident. Part of my job as a boudoir photographer is helping you feel comfortable and guiding you through the entire experience.

  • Professional posing and lighting make a huge difference. You do not need to know how to pose or what to do in front of the camera. I guide you through every pose from head to toe and use flattering lighting and angles to photograph you in a way that brings out your best features.

  • You can wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. A boudoir session does not mean you have to wear revealing lingerie. Bodysuits, sweaters, button down shirts, simple bras and underwear, or even a favorite outfit can photograph beautifully. Your boudoir session should look and feel like you.

  • Boudoir can become even more meaningful as you get older. There is something powerful about reaching a point in life where you decide to celebrate yourself as you are. You have lived a lot of life, experienced changes, raised families, built careers, cared for other people, and probably put yourself last more times than you can count. A boudoir photo shoot can be an opportunity to put the focus back on you.

  • You are allowed to do this just for yourself. Boudoir photos can certainly make an amazing gift for a spouse or partner, but you do not need a special occasion or another person as a reason to book a session. Sometimes the best reason is simply because you want to do something that makes you feel beautiful again.

  • There really is no perfect age for boudoir photography. If you keep waiting for the perfect age, perfect weight, perfect body, or perfect amount of confidence, you may keep finding reasons to put it off. The woman you are today deserves to be photographed too.

Whether you are considering boudoir photography in your 40s, 50s, 60s, or later, you are not too old for a boudoir shoot. You do not need to turn back the clock or try to look like a younger version of yourself. A beautiful boudoir session is about showing you just how beautiful the woman you are today can be.

A Final Thought

If you have been telling yourself that you are too old for a boudoir shoot, I hope this gives you a different way to look at it. There is no age when you suddenly stop deserving to feel beautiful, confident, and good about yourself. You do not need to look younger or change who you are before stepping in front of the camera. A boudoir session is about celebrating the woman you are right now, at this age, in this body, and in this season of your life. And sometimes doing something completely outside of your comfort zone is exactly the reminder you need that you are still very much worth celebrating.

Losing weight can be a big accomplishment, and for many women using GLP 1 medications like Mounjaro, Zepbound, Ozempic, or Wegovy, it can also bring a lot of changes in how you see and feel about your body. Maybe you’re feeling more confident, your clothes fit differently, or you simply want to celebrate how far you’ve come. A boudoir session can be a beautiful way to mark this chapter in your life. Not because your body needed to change to be worthy of being photographed, but because sometimes it feels good to celebrate yourself and everything you’ve accomplished.

Why Celebrate GLP 1 Weight Loss With a Boudoir Session?

If you have lost weight with the help of a GLP 1 medication such as Mounjaro, Zepbound, Ozempic, or Wegovy, you may be experiencing a body that looks and feels very different than it did before. A boudoir session can be a meaningful way to celebrate those changes, reconnect with yourself, and document this chapter of your life.

Here are a few reasons you may want to consider booking a boudoir session after GLP 1 weight loss:

  • You have accomplished something that matters to you. Whether you have lost 20 pounds, 50 pounds, 100 pounds, or simply reached a place where you feel healthier and more comfortable, your journey is worth celebrating. A boudoir session gives you an opportunity to do something that is completely about you.

  • Your body may look different, but you may still be adjusting to seeing it. Weight loss can happen faster than the way we see ourselves changes. You may know that your body has changed, but still see the person you were before when you look in the mirror. Seeing yourself through professional photographs can sometimes give you a completely different perspective.

  • You do not need a perfect body to book a boudoir session. Weight loss can come with loose skin, stretch marks, changes in your breasts, or areas of your body that you are still learning to appreciate. You do not have to wait until every part of your body looks exactly the way you want it to. Boudoir is about photographing the body you have right now in a flattering and beautiful way.

  • You can celebrate yourself without focusing on a number on the scale. Your boudoir session does not have to be about how many pounds you lost or what size you wear now. It can simply be about recognizing that you have entered a new chapter and giving yourself permission to enjoy it.

  • You may discover a new sense of confidence. Many women spend years avoiding the camera because they do not feel comfortable being photographed. After losing weight with Mounjaro, Zepbound, Ozempic, Wegovy, or another GLP 1 medication, you may finally feel ready to step in front of the camera again. A boudoir session can help you see yourself in a way you may not have in a very long time.

  • Your session can be completely personalized to your comfort level. Boudoir does not mean you have to wear revealing lingerie. You can choose bodysuits, an oversized sweater, a button up shirt, a simple tank top, a favorite outfit, or anything else that makes you feel comfortable and confident. Your session should reflect who you are, not what you think a boudoir session is supposed to look like.

  • You do not have to wait until you reach your final goal. This is an important one. It is very easy to tell yourself that you will book a boudoir session after another 10 pounds, when you reach a certain clothing size, or when you finally feel completely confident. There will always be another milestone you could wait for. If you feel ready now, you are allowed to celebrate where you are right now.

What If I Have Loose Skin After Losing Weight?

Loose skin is a very common concern after significant weight loss, whether you lost weight through lifestyle changes, bariatric surgery, or medications such as Mounjaro, Zepbound, Ozempic, or Wegovy.

It does not mean you cannot have beautiful boudoir photographs.

There are many ways your session can be photographed and styled to help you feel comfortable:

  • Posing matters. Small changes in body position can make a big difference in how you look and feel in your photographs.

  • Lighting matters. Professional lighting can help create flattering shape and dimension while highlighting the areas you love.

  • Wardrobe matters. Bodysuits, high waisted lingerie, sweaters, button up shirts, and other pieces can provide different amounts of coverage while still creating beautiful boudoir images.

  • You decide what you are comfortable showing. If there is an area you are particularly self conscious about, tell your photographer. Your session can be planned with those concerns in mind.

Most importantly, you do not have to apologize for loose skin or any other changes that came with your weight loss. Your body has been through a transformation, and your boudoir session can celebrate the person you are today.

Is Now the Right Time for a Boudoir Session?

There is no specific amount of weight you need to lose and no particular size you need to reach before booking a boudoir session.

If you have been thinking about doing one after losing weight on a GLP 1 medication, ask yourself a few simple questions:

  • Do I want to celebrate how far I have come?

  • Am I curious about seeing myself differently?

  • Would I love to have beautiful photographs of myself at this point in my life?

  • Am I ready to do something that is just for me?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, this might be the perfect time.

Your boudoir session does not have to represent the end of your weight loss journey. It can simply celebrate where you are today.

A Final Thought

Losing weight with the help of a GLP 1 medication can be a significant chapter in your life, and you deserve to celebrate your progress in whatever way feels meaningful to you. You do not have to wait for a certain number on the scale, a specific clothing size, or a perfect body to step in front of the camera. A boudoir session can simply be about celebrating where you are today, recognizing how far you have come, and creating beautiful photographs that remind you of this moment in your journey.

Many women love the confidence boost of displaying their boudoir wall art in their home, but if you have children, you might be wondering how to keep those images private. The good news is that there are plenty of creative ways to enjoy your boudoir photos without putting them on full display for everyone in the house. In this post, I’m sharing several smart and stylish ideas for hiding or discreetly displaying boudoir wall art so you can enjoy your images while still maintaining privacy.

  1. Master Bedroom Feature Wall:

    • Designate a feature wall in the master bedroom for displaying boudoir wall art.
    • Choose a location that is less visible from common areas.
  2. Behind Closed Closet Doors:

    • Hang boudoir prints or canvases on the inside of closet doors in the master bedroom.
    • This provides a private and unexpected display option.
  3. Bathroom Ensuite:

    • Display boudoir wall art in the ensuite bathroom, ensuring it's private from the main living areas.
    • Opt for moisture-resistant prints or frames.
  4. Inside Walk-In Closet:

    • Create a gallery wall inside your walk-in closet where it remains private when the doors are closed.
    • This offers a discreet yet personal setting.
  5. Freestanding Privacy Screens:

    • Use freestanding privacy screens or room dividers to create a private section for boudoir wall art.
    • Position the screens strategically for concealment when needed.
  6. Hidden Alcove Display:

    • Utilize a hidden alcove or niche in the master bedroom for a discreet display.
    • This provides a tucked-away space for intimate wall art.
  7. Above Closed Storage Cabinets:

    • If you have closed storage cabinets in the bedroom, hang boudoir wall art above them.
    • This keeps the artwork out of direct sight when not intended.
  8. Behind Draperies or Curtains:

    • Hang boudoir wall art behind draperies or curtains that can be pulled closed for privacy.
    • This offers a flexible solution for concealing the artwork.
  9. Inside a Wardrobe:

    • Create a hidden gallery inside a wardrobe by hanging framed prints or canvases on the inner doors.
    • This ensures complete privacy when the wardrobe is closed.
  10. Sliding Barn Doors:

    • If your bedroom has sliding barn doors, consider hanging boudoir wall art on the interior side.
    • This allows for easy concealment when desired.
  11. Above a Closed Vanity Mirror:

    • Hang wall art above a closed vanity mirror in the master bathroom.
    • This conceals the artwork when not in use and adds a touch of elegance.
  12. Hinged Art Panels:

    • Design hinged art panels that can be closed to conceal the boudoir wall art.
    • This allows for privacy and the option to reveal the artwork when desired.
  13. Rolling Storage Wall:

    • Create a rolling storage wall that can hide boudoir wall art.
    • Roll it into place for privacy or slide it away for a revealing display.
  14. Inside a Built-In Bookshelf:

    • If you have a built-in bookshelf in the bedroom, display boudoir wall art discreetly among the books.
    • This adds a layer of privacy while integrating the artwork into the room.
  15. Wall Art Safe:

    • Install a wall art safe that can be opened to reveal boudoir prints.
    • This adds an extra layer of security and privacy.

When selecting a location, consider the flow of your daily routines and ensure that the chosen spot provides the desired level of privacy. These creative ideas allow for intimate and personal displays while keeping the artwork discreet from children or other family members.
